From the Franco-Prussian War to the 1889 Paris World Exhibition

Following Napoleon III’s disastrous war with Prussia and the German states in 1870, his regime was abolished and the Third Republic proclaimed on 4 September 1870. The Annunciation of the Abolition of the Imperial Regime in front of the Palais du Corps Législatif, by Jules Didier and Jacques Guiaud (1870), picturing a soft political transition in the midst of war; The Siege of Paris (1884), showcasing the heroic defense of Paris, besieged by the Germans, until an armistice was eventually signed in January 1871;  Adolphe Thiers (French politician), proclaimed “Liberator of the territory” at a sitting in the Chamber of Deputies (1877), or the difficult beginnings of the Third Republic, when the proponents of a monarchy and the Republicans opposed each others; and the Central Dome of the World Fair in Paris 1889 (1890), depicting a modern France, at the pinnacle of its renewed power.
