The Edwardian era was one in which novelists and poets thrived, and Beerbohm both caricatured and criticised many of them. Joseph Conrad, Thomas Hardy, W.B. Yeats, H.G. Wells, G. K. Chesterton, Hilaire Belloc, G. E. Moore and many others came under Beerbohm’s scrutiny. Beerbohm himself published his sole novel, Zuleika Dobson, a hilarious satire on Oxford University life and manners, in 1911.
