Classi Lectures together with Jewish Genealogical Society of Toronto and Anne Dublin – The Bricha: The Jewish Underground Railroad in Postwar Europe

How did Holocaust survivors manage to leave Eastern Europe and find safety? Most had no homes left and the Russians were advancing..  The survivors weren’t whisked away by a magic carpet.

What helped tens of thousands of people was an organization called the “Bricha”, which means “flight” in Hebrew. The individuals and organizations, at great risk, assisted thousands to safety to displaced persons camps, mainly in Austria and Germany, and to get to Palestine.

It’s a story of great risk, personal sacrifice, and ultimately, of hope.

In the series:
May 2: “The Last Train” with Rona Arato
May 9: “The Bricha” with Anne Dublin
May 16: The history of the DP camps with Anne Dublin
