Dame Maggie Smith was one of England’s finest actresses.
Maggie Smith, the masterful, scene-stealing actor who won an Oscar for The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie in 1969 and gained new fans in the 21st century as the Dowager Countess of Grantham in Downton Abbey and Professor Minerva McGonagall in the Harry Potter films, passed away Sept. 27, 2024. She was 89.
In this tribute to her inspiring work and life, in comedy and drama, we will explore her extraordinary talent on stage and screen. She received two Academy awards, five BAFTAs, four Emmys , a Tony award and many others.
Lawrence Olivier commented that he ”knew he’d met his match’, that she was ‘extraordinary’. She was and we will discover what made her so great.
