“Background Czech – Surprising Discoveries in Czech Opera”

Leoš Janáček and Slavic Realism

Janáček’s mature operas (written when he was in his 60s and 70s) are full of originality and individuality. They are also some of the most profound commentaries on the human condition in all operatic literature. We will demonstrate that no other opera composer has mastered the “art of the finale” as well as Janáček.
