Many Dutch paintings feature drinking. Much condemned in Calvinist Holland, as the root of all evil (across all social spheres), it nevertheless inspired many paintings featuring gentlemen pressing ladies to drink, with consequences spelled out in witty critiques of dissolute households and cuckolded husbands.
