Courtauld Collection & Count Seilern

Samuel Courtauld was a brilliant industrialist who is best remembered as an art collector. He founded the Courtauld and bequeathed his gorgeous collection of French Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings to the Courtauld.

The Prince’s Gate collection was bequeathed to the Courtauld by the eccentric Austrian aristocrat Count Seilern who aimed to create a miniature version of the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna with precious Flemish and Venetian Old Masters.
