1787 - Scandalous Women
Tues. Aug. 27 @ 4pm.
$ 10.00 + HST

In Gill Paul’s novel, reminiscent of “Mad Men” in its portrayal of the publishing world, two iconic authors, Jacqueline Susann and Jackie Collins, navigate the turbulent landscape of 1960s literature with their scandalous novels. Susann’s “Valley of the Dolls” and Collins’s “The World Is Full of Married Men” propel them into fame, but also into the crosshairs of criticism and sexism. As they face backlash from the literary establishment and feminists, they must also contend with personal secrets threatening to unravel. Meanwhile, Nancy White, a young editorial assistant, joins a Manhattan publishing house and finds herself immersed in a culture of sexism. Her path intertwines with Susann and Collins, as she befriends Susann and facilitates a meeting between the two authors.

Amidst the clash of egos and the struggle for success in a male-dominated industry, these three women strive to protect their loved ones while pursuing their ambitions.
