The Emergence of Pop Art
In our first lecture, we’ll explore the evolution of Pop Art, rooted in popular culture and reflecting the optimism of the post-war consumer boom in the 1950s and ’60s.
British Pop Art emerged gradually from the broader cultural context, characterized by its intellectual and interdisciplinary nature.
Key artists we’ll discuss include Sir Eduardo Paolozzi, Richard Hamilton, Peter Blake, Robert Rauschenberg, and Jasper Johns.
