Join Laura in an enlightening Series of Presentation where she will explore 20 or more exquisite works of art from Ancient Egypt. All pieces covered will be from the current collections of the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, Cairo, the exquisite classical building that opened in 1902.
Laura will reveal the beauty of masterworks from the Old, Middle, and New Kingdoms of Egypt. She will discuss their exceptional craftsmanship, their fascinating symbolism, their archaeological discovery and how they serve as a window into the wondrous world of the ancients.
Week 1: Introduction to the Egyptian Museum & Art of the Old Kingdom
First we will delve into the fascinating origins and character of Cairo’s Egyptian Museum in Cairo. Then we will look at some masterworks from the pyramid age. See some of the most magnificent pieces in world art from the origins of Egypt through the 4th dynasty- and learn the reasons for their superb craftsmanship.
