Back in the United States, women artists fared better with the rise of the New Woman. We will have already met the New Woman as we explore Sargent’s career. In this final session, we will take a look at women artists, led by Cecilia Beaux, working in the Gilded Age in the U.S. and how they negotiated their careers inside the wobbly boundaries of societal change.
This is a 5-week program:

James McNeil Whistler: Mar. 3
John Singer Sargent: Mar. 10
