Encounters with the work of Alberto Giacometti
Elizabeth Perrotte will explore how modern artist Alberto Giacometti developed his radical sculptural style, from Surrealist beginnings to his haunting post-WWII figurative works. These eerie, elongated figures in plaster and bronze offered a new image of humanity’s existential plight.
The talk will also examine Barbican Gallery exhibitions that pair Giacometti’s work with contemporary female artists Huma Bhabha, Mona Hatoum, and Lynda Benglis, highlighting his enduring power and relevance today.
