The Sondheim Influence: Follies, A Chorus Line and the Concept Musical

In attempt to document Stephen Sondheim’s influence on musical theatre, we’ll compare two “concept musicals” from the 1970’s:  Follies and A Chorus Line.  We’ll learn about their shared relationship to the history of Broadway musicals and the ways that they variously helped to shape Broadway’s future.  Intriguingly, while Sondheim played no official role in the creation of A Chorus Line, his fingerprints are all over it.
