In 1815 the Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth was divided up by its neighbours, Prussia, Austria, and Russia. It had once been home to the largest Jewish community in the world. The majority of them became subjects of the autocratic czarist empire. Trapped by new masters this presentation will tell the story of their lives in the empire.
