Childhood in Art
Far from offering just a sentimental view of childhood, artists across the ages tell us the fascinating stories of how children were perceived and treated in their day and of their place and value in the society of adults.
We learn of the lives of girls and boys segregated by society’s expectations, we see them engaging in activities both familiar and unfamiliar to us today and we learn from them as they communicate wisdoms about the folly of grown ups.
Artists will include Velasquez, de Hooch, Jan Steen, Judith Leyster, Murillo, Edvard Munch
