This talk considers the swelling surge of Jewish participation in the visual arts in the twentieth and twenty-first century. What has that meant for ever-broadening questions that encompass increasingly diverse forms of visual artistic productivity that might fall under the umbrella of “Jewish art.”? What evolve as recognizable symbols or subjects? Are there particular subjects or artistic intentions that one might include or exclude from such a category?
