Fin de Siecle Vienna 1890-WWI

Vienna was the capital of the 20th century. The intellectual life of the city, its architecture, sights and sounds, and new colors were for a new world waiting to be born. It was a time of charm, elegance, and intellectual progress all born in Viennese cafes.

Alma Mahler: Vienna’s Femme Fatale

Considered the prettiest girl in 1900 Vienna, Alma Schindler exerted a powerful attraction on many of the most gifted men of her era including the composer Gustav Mahler, the modernist architect Walter Gropius, the painter Oskar Kokoschka, and the poet and novelist Franz Werfel with many others in between.

In the series:
May 21: Concert life in Vienna: From Brahms to Schoenberg
May 28: Architecture and Design in Vienna: From Biedermeier to Secession
June 4: Viennese portraits – Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele and Richard Gerstl
July 9: Alma Mahler: Vienna’s Femme Fatale
