Michelle McQuigge

After more than 17 years of experience in journalism, Michelle is currently the Weekend and Special Projects Manager at The Canadian Press, Canada’s national wire service. She is the editor responsible for co-ordinating and ensuring quality coverage of breaking and developing news on weekends across print, broadcast, visual and online platforms. She also oversees the editorial strategy, planning, and execution of special projects, such as prominent anniversaries or coverage of notable national events.

Her skills as an editor were first honed during 13.5 years of reporting on national news, with particular focus on current events in Ontario and issues affecting Canada’s disabled population. Her interest in such matters stems partially from her own lived experience of total blindness. she feels strongly about the value of high-quality writing and believes well-chosen words have the power to educate, inform, entertain and engage.

Beyond journalism, she has also gained more than 10 years of board experience and currently serves as a director for two not-for-profits catering to Canada’s blind residents.
