Adam LeBor

I am a British author and journalist with a diverse career spanning Fleet Street assignments, foreign correspondence, and book writing. After studying at Leeds University and editing the student newspaper, I worked for various newspapers, covering stories from London’s best dry Martini to Nazi war criminals in Britain. In 1991, I moved to Budapest to report on post-Communist Europe and later covered the Yugoslav wars.

I’ve authored eight non-fiction books and seven novels, translated into 12 languages. My works include Hitler’s Secret Bankers, exposing Swiss complicity with Nazi Germany, and City of Oranges, chronicling Arab and Jewish lives in Jaffa—both shortlisted for major prizes. My investigative history Tower of Basel explores the Bank for International Settlements, while Complicity with Evil inspired my thriller series featuring Yael Azoulay.

Recently, I completed a Budapest noir trilogy about Gypsy detective Balthazar Kovacs. Now based in London, I continue to write, review thrillers, and work as an editorial trainer and coach.
