“Sleek and Chic” Mid-century Modern Architecture with Michael Guido

The lecture will focus on a chronological examination of significant architecture. I will expose architectural themes and problems from 1950 to 1980 and their associated forms and meanings. Much like the history of art, architecture encompasses numerous styles, movements and international political and social developments that have informed or challenged its evolution and Construction materials and methods such as fiberglass, rubber gaskets and aluminum innovations.
Architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Le Corbusier, Mies Van Rohe, Walter Gropius, Richard Neutra, Charles and Ray Eames, Altar Alto, Jorn Utzon, Carlo Scarpa, Eero Saarinen, Louis Kahn, Robert Venturi, Norman Foster, the New Jersey Five will be examined along with movements such as Mid-century Modern, Brutalism, Post-Modern and High Tech.
