The seeming premise of the opera that “women are like that” has challenged and provoked both audiences and directors for over two centuries. To some, broad disguises and comic deceptions imply a farce, but this is Mozart – so there are deeper psychological insights to be found. The motivations of the six characters remain ambiguous – but each one learns something uncomfortable about themselves
Iain will point out the key moments where directors must make interpretive choices that match Mozart’s incandescent music.
The COC’s production of “Cosi fan Tutte” will open on Saturday, October 3, 2026. There will be 7 performances, ending on Sunday, October 18, 2026.
